Join War Child and Rotary for Colombian youth
GROWING UP IN BOGOTÁ
A future free from fear, poverty, violence and drugs - that is the future we want to see for the young people of Ciudad Bolívar, one of the poorest districts of Bogotá.
Yet the present is very different - one where young people grow up in the shadow of illegal armed groups and criminal gangs. Poverty is widespread and families are forced to live under a significant burden of stress. Many young people end up living on the streets as a result - alone amid the rising coronavirus pandemic and at risk of sexual exploitation and forced recruitment into armed groups.
HELP 800 YOUNG PEOPLE
In 2017 members of Rotary Club Bogotá-Capital came into contact with War Child. They have seen first-hand the difference War Child’s work makes in the lives of children and youth. The two organisations - together with Rotary clubs in the Netherlands - have now come together for a very special project. And the goal? To support more than 800 young people in Ciudad Bolívar between the ages of 15 to 24 - and give them the tools to build a better future…
THE POWER OF CONNECTIVITY
The Connectivity Hub in the centre of Ciudad Bolívar will play host to our proposed project - Connect with Your Future. The project will see young people take part in programmes designed to develop both their vocational skills and their wellbeing. The project will also provide youth with a place where they can relax and make friends - away from fear, violence and drugs.
All of this will give 800 young people the tools they need to build a better future - both for themselves and their communities.
OUR FUNDING TARGET
Rotarians in both Colombia and The Netherlands are doing their utmost to help us reach our €100,000 funding target - but we’re not there yet. Thanks to many donations, we are already halfway towards our target - and we are now looking for companies, Rotary Clubs and individuals to help us make this project a reality.
1. COMPANY OR ROTARY CLUB
If your company or Rotary Club donates towards this project (Global Grant number 198 9538) - the amount will be increased by 50% by The Rotary Foundation! Please contact Susan Kraaijeveld (member of Rotary Club Dordrecht and ambassador of War Child) via firstname.lastname@example.org or +31 6 4262 0560.
